CELEBRATING 26 YEARS OF MAGIC & DISCOVERY

OUR MISSION & VISION

The Center provides an environment that encourages children to use their senses of touch, sight, hearing, and smell to gain a better understanding of the world around them.

Our goals are to help children develop positive self-concept and an understanding of others in Hawaii’s multicultural community, and to offer them a “window to the world” beyond our island shores.

We want to inspire children to “dream big dreams” and to know that dreams can, indeed, come true!

FAQs

How long does it take to visit the Center?

Every child is different, but on average, most families visit for 2-3 hours.  The Center is quite large and is designed for audiences of all ages so that children can learn something new with each visit.  The best way to experience the Center is to take your child’s lead, allowing them the opportunity for purposeful play in an area for as long as they choose to.  As children mature and acquire new skills they will learn something new with each visit.

Can I bring my Stroller?

Unfortunately strollers are not allowed in the Center’s exhibit galleries to allow for an unobstructed play space for the children.  We have a stroller parking area in our lobby.  If you do not have a baby carrier we can loan you one at the front desk.  If you require special accommodations please inquire at our front desk.

Can I drop my child off at the Center?

All children must be accompanied by an adult in the ratio of 1 adult for every 4 children.  This is for the safety and supervision of the child.

Can I bring my own food into the Center?

The Center has a Kids Cafe that offers an assortment of child friendly menu options.  If you would prefer to bring your own snack or lunch you are welcome to enjoy those outside on our lanai or in the park.  Please note that seating in the Kids Cafe is reserved for customers who make a purchase in the cafe.  To help keep the Center clean, food and drinks are not allowed in the Center’s exhibit galleries or lobby areas.

Can I apply the price of admission to a membership?

You can apply your daily admission towards a membership on the same day as your visit.  Just stop by our reception desk before you leave.

How often do you clean the museum exhibits and props?

All exhibits and props are cleaned at the end of each day.  If you find a prop that needs cleaning during the day, please let a staff member know.

Does the Center make donations?

The Discovery Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.  Grants and donations help us cover the Center’s daily operating expenses.  At this time we are unable to make donations to other charities.  Through our school visit program, which enables us to reach the greatest number of children throughout the State, we offer heavily reduced admission and subsidize the shortfall through donations.

Do you sell gift certificates?

We do sell gift certificates for general admission as well as memberships to the Center.  Please stop by the Center or call us at 524-5437.

ILLNESS POLICY

Any guest exhibiting cold or flu like symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea or excessive coughing or runny nose will not be permitted in the Center until they are symptom free for 24 hours.  The Center reserves the right to request visitors to leave the Center or one of our programs if you or your child is sick.
