Festa das Vindimas (Portuguese Harvest Festival)

The traditional harvest celebration of the grapes in Portugal includes a children's parade, exhibitions, bull-runs, wine tasting and selling, arts and crafts, food vendors, musical performances and culminates with a magnificent fireworks display. Join us for a collage craft inspired by the autumn grape harvest.

China: Zhong Qui (Chinese Harvest Festival)

The festival of the harvest moon, which typically occurs when the moon is fullest in the night sky, is celebrated to mark the safe harvesting of the Fall crops and includes moon gazing and special foods such as moon cakes. Families in China gather for delicious meals, and neighborhoods are decorated with thousands of colorful paper lanterns. Let's make hand-made paper lanterns to represent the wonderous moon!
Chusok (Korean Harvest Festival)

In Korea, families honor their ancestors by placing songpyon made with newly harvested rice and fresh fruit on their ancestors' graves, believing that their loved ones will protect and bless them with good fortune and prosperity. Celebrate with us by embellishing a paper mask and enjoying a dance performance by local Korean children.
Tori No Ichi (Japanese Harvest Festival)
Saturday, October 18 & Sunday, October 19

During Tori No Ichi, Japanese farmers give thanks for an abundant harvest to ta no kami (god of the rice fields) and welcome ta no kami into their homes. They "rake-in" good fortune by decorating rakes of all sizes with various lucky charms, such as manekineko (the money-gathering cat). Decorate a kumade, or paper rake, and show your appreciation for the abundance in your life!
Pongol (Indian Harvest Festival)

This Indian festival is a joyful time for thanking god for the crops, the sun, the earth and their cattle. During the three day celebration, families worship Indra, god of clouds and rain, and Surya, the sun god. They also celebrate the sacred cow for providing nourishment. Farmers honor their cattle by painting their horns and decorating them with colorful beads, bells and flower garlands. String colorful flowers together for someone who provides you with nourishing food.
